Adopted Birds
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Newton, Iowa adopted an immature Bald Eagle. The eagle had been found on the side of the road, unable to fly and very weak. The eagle, whom they named TJ, had fishing line wrapped around the base of one of the talons. It was infected, and the eagle was unable to fight off the infection. At SOAR, they amputated the toe, and gave TJ antibiotics to get rid of the infection. It worked, and TJ steadily got better.
Thomas Jefferson Elementary school took a field trip to Lake Red Rock to learn about TJ and to watch as one of the school's staff members released her into the wild. © Copyright 2004 S.O.A.R All rights reserved.
