Admit #282

This short-eared owl was rescued (in Clay County, Iowa) and transported by Clay County Conservation. Woot and our thanks.

This owl is number 282 on our running list of admitted birds in 2023. The admit date of October 18 is day 291 of 365.

Kay reports the owl is thin with a very nasty swelling at the right elbow. With all that swelling, it is incredibly difficult to feel a fracture, even with experienced fingers. In case that swelling is partly due to an infection this owl was started on antibiotics. The owl will be further stabilized before an x-ray is considered.
