Bella

Red-tailed Hawk
Bella came to SOAR as a nestling via a veterinarian in 2011. We hoped she was just displaced from her nest… but her behavior suggested that she was raised by humans at the critical time in her life when she needed to be looking at and being fed by other red-tailed hawks. She does not have the appropriate social skills to hold a territory and form a wild pair bond with a male red-tailed hawk, so would not be a reproductive benefit to the wild population. This story highlights the importance of young birds needing to be raised by others of their species! Photo KM Bossard.
