Deb rescued a juvenile red-tailed hawk on the north side of Des Moines on the 18th. Deb reported, ” Had to climb over a pile of dead branches and weeds. Came out FULL of burrs! Half of my hair and my fleece jacket will never be the same!” This juvenile is very underweight and the right primary feathers are damaged, almost like they’ve been cut or shaved off.

We thought we'd turned the "proverbial corner" with this hawk, but he was extremely thin and maybe had lost just too much weight to recover.

After some high calorie fluids, this red-tail was offered tid-bits of meet and GLADLY accepted.
